Looking forward to lunch today- was super easy to make too- chop up chorizo into small bits and dry fry until it releases some fat, and then add the green beans so it all sizzles in its own juices- should be yum!  Although 50g chorizo when chopped up small looks like quite a lot- I think next time I could use less and still be satisfied, and then I could maybe have more than 3 grapes as lunchtime dessert! 😛  If you don’t have chorizo, some bacon would work just as well I think.

As predicted, lunch was yum!  Was a decent size, so belly is full, but it was tasty so I could have happily scoffed more!  Goes to show how most of the time we eat WAYYYYYY more than is necessary!

Dinner was alright, nothing special but it filled a hole.

One more Fast Day to go, on Friday.  Friday’s always a tough one cos you just wanna have a glass of wine or some choc to celebrate the week’s end, but I suppose when you look at it like that it’s probably a good idea to Fast of Fridays to stop you eating naughty things!

Breakie was delicious, and a tonne of avocado for just one ryvita- had it been a normal day I’d have had it on 2.  Still, super tasty start to the day,

Then I went off on a little charity shop shopping spree, looking for a few new summer pieces at bargain prices!  I visited two charity shops and one second hand shop and rummaged round and found some gems that  can’t wait to wear, including a gorgeous maxi dress! 🙂  Was hoping to find some shorts, but maybe next time- will try again in a few weeks time after my friend has been and gone.  I’m trying to be thriftier (hence the second hand), but also clothes can be such throwaway items these days, it feels nicer to be a bit greener- your trash is my treasure as they say! 🙂

Came home, had my baked beans, and then set about doing some house chores (taking clothes off the line, ironing, washing up), and now I’m just waiting for a reasonable dinner time.  Am sadly excited about dinner because on my adventure today I stopped off at this awesome  fruit n veg place and picked up some okra (ladiesfingers/bhindi), which my local supermarket doesn’t stock, and I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!   Have stir-fried some up with some other veg for my lunch tomorrow, and on Wednesday’s fast day am thinking of making a mini curry with it- can’t wait!

I am doing 3 Fast Days this week so that I feel nice and slim for when my friend arrived from Singapore next Sunday!  Since visitors always equal food, I wanted to pre-empt it a little by doing 3 Fasts this week!

Fast Day 37 Total = 500c

Hahaha, do you like my attempt at making my lunch a bit healthier by having a few cherry tomatoes too?  Completely cancels out the fakeness and chemicallyness of the cup-a-soup….. ahem.

Am being a bit lazy this week, but also am trying to use things up that we have in the cupboard.  You always go “there’s nothing to eat!” when there’s TONNES of stuff you could eat in your fridge, freezer, cupboards etc, so I am trying to use these kinds of things up and be a bit less wasteful.  Also in an attempt to try and spend a bit less money at the supermarket.  There’s only 2 of us in our house hold- no kids- no pets – and yet the supermarket still takes FARRRRRRRR too much of our money each week!!!!  Hence the rather frugally lunch today.

Breakie made a nice change today as it felt a bit more substantial than my recent fast days where I’ve mostly just had fruit.  The fruit isn’t too bad though, and generally it is filling, but maybe mentally having yogurt and oatbran seemed more filling as it was carbs and dairy, proper food, when usually fruit is a snack, or an addition to a meal e.g. strawberries or banana on my porridge!  My stomach certainly did NOT gurgle this morning like it has been, so maybe I am onto something with this more substantial Fast Day breakfast food.  Fruit is really just sugar isn’t it.  Better sugar, with good nutrients, but still sugar that will probably make you feel hungry again later, so perhaps I will continue with the yogurt and oatbran on fast days for a bit.

Oddly this afternoon I started feeling a bit jittery and shakey…. maybe too much tea on a fairly empty stomach?  It was a bit unpleasant,  Might be something to consider- less tea, more water?

Fast Day 36: slight dilemma!

  • 100ml Ocean Spray Light Cranberry Juice = 8c

Fast Day 36 Total = 500c

Had some major stomach gurgling this morning, but quenched the rumbles with water and tea.  Had my cup-a-soup in a bowl to make it feel like I had a proper lunch, and it seemed to work, it felt satisfying!

Didn’t feel so hot today though, bit headachey and tired all day.  Could be because I was wearing old glasses instead of new ones- the prescription difference is minimal, but it could have been a factor- so I really wanted to go home instead of swimming, but I still went.  Haha, me and my mate mostly chatted rather than swum, but there were some lengths in there, so must have done myself a little bit of good!

Got home, had my dinner, watched some Downton (rewatching S3, as S4 starts next weekend- whoop whoop!) and then snoozed on the sofa ridiculously early, like it was 8.15pm and I was falling asleep!!  Don’t think it was due to fast day though, think it was due to the feeling crappy all day.

I’m going to have a bit of a Fasting dilemma soon- one of my best mates from home is visiting at the end of the month, so I don’t know what to do about Fasting.  Not sure I’ll be able to Fast when she’s here, as I don’t want to waste my time calculating calories when I could be hanging with her and chatting.  I also am not sure I want to advertise about the Fasting either.  But when you have guests, all you do is eat and drink yummy things and my weight will just balloon!!!!  SO, what I am contemplating is this: on the days when I have to go to work (sadly not enough holiday to book the whole time off) I eat no food until the evening, when I eat a normal dinner.  It wouldn’t be a proper fast, as I wouldn’t be calculating the calories of dinner, but the principles of 5:2 would be upheld, the big gap in eating allowing my body to repair itself and use fat stores.  If I did this then I could fit fasting in without it affecting my friends visit.  I know some people on 5:2 don’t eat anything until dinner, but I don’t know, the thought is quite scary, esp since I usually split my calories between 3 meals…. Would I die of hunger?  Would I be a complete b*tch to everyone at work due to lack of food and energy?  Really, what I should do is try it before she gets here….. except I don’t want to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bit of a dilemma.  I might just do it when she’s here, as I think it will be tough, and I’m not sure I want to know just how tough in advance….. :-S

Fast Day 35: not one of my better Fast Days….

Fast Day 35 Total = 500c

Breakie was good today, avo on ryvita, with a couple of sticks of celery on the side.  Ate celery first of course, cos that’s the boring part of breakfast.  45g of avo is surprisingly a lot- I thought it’d be like a teaspoon, but apparently avo is quite light, so all mushed up with the chilli flakes there was very decent coverage on the ryvita- yum yum! 🙂

Lunch was small but I tried to eat it slowly, putting knife and fork down between each bite, and drinking a lot of water to fill me up, so it actually ended up taking a long time to eat.  Is good to enjoy and savour foods- is so easy to wolf stuff down!

Run was a bit tough tonight.  Weather was bad (windy!), and only 2 other social runners showed up aside from me n the boyf- both of them fast runners, so everyone was a fast runner except me.  I was the slow one at the back with the boyf who was humouring me by running so slow.  The two went off ahead and I was just plodding along, miles behind- we couldn’t even see them after like, FIVE MINUTES!!  I don’t particularly enjoy being the slowest every week, so I wanted to head home and let the fast people run together, to save me from my complete and utter embarrassment/humiliation at being so rubbish, but the boyfriend wouldn’t let me.  I don’t know if he thought he was being nice by insisting I stay and that the other two wouldn’t get lost despite him (the running guide) having to run with me, that I’d come all this way so I should run.  With those 2 annoying people there I couldn’t talk to him properly about it- I wanted to scream at him “do you think it’s fun for me to be last every single week!?!?!?!  To be as slow as an 80+ year old !?!?!”  The 80+ year old is my usual Thursday running buddy- he wasn’t there this week.  The fact that I offered so many times to go home, you’d think he’d get the hint.  So I struggled round, my anger making my breathing ragged.  Not good.

Fast Day 34 total = 498c

Made the fritters and dinner yesterday afternoon so that I could work out all my calories.  It’s worked out quite well, because tonight all I have to do is reheat! 🙂

The fritters are super easy, and really tasty!  Basically chop onion and garlic into v small pieces.  Grate all your veg.  Season with the spices and curry paste, and mix it thoroughly.  Pop in microwave for 1-1.5 minutes (depending on how much veg you have!), stir really well, and repeat.  Then fry in oil in batches, until all the mixture is done and you’re left with yummy golden fritters! 🙂

Haven’t found today all that hard, but then for some reason I was feeling a bit sick this morning after my bus journey, so feeling not 100% probably took away my appetite some.  Still really enjoyed my lunch though, and looking forward to dinner in a minute! This quinoa stew thing has become a firm favourite in our household- we’ve got a guest staying with us at the end of the month and I’ll definitely be making this dinner for them!

Felt quite good today as I did the social running club Thursday night (no way I wasn’t going to do this after Wednesday night’s debacle!!), so was feeling fit and healthy what with my fast too!  We did a hilly 6.5K, in about 40-45 mins, so I’m pleased with that!

Was a bit tricky after work as I went to the super market to pick up a few bits.  Feeling a bit tired n grumpy by the time I got home, but all sorted by a coke zero and then a quick veggie curry not long after- yum!
