Fast Day 69 and 70: Bad blogger!

Sorry, bad blogger this week- did 2 fast days and then ran out of time and energy to type them up, so there they are:

This fast day was relatively easy compared to the one I did Sunday.  We were just hangin round the house on Sunday so all the food was calling to me!!!!!!!! 😦

Fast Day  70 total:  479c

Lunch was yum, I made a “creamy” thai noodle soup, without all the fat- was really good.  Perhaps a little bit too much curry paste though as its a strong paste and it was quite spicy!  Still my fave meal of the day though, felt naughty but it really wasn’t! 🙂

So yep, I managed two this week, just about, by squeezing in my second fast day on Sunday.  Tuesday was pancake day and we had friends round for pancakes so had no time to plan a fast for Wednesday so it had to be Thursday, then hating to Fast on a Fri I decided on Sunday, although that was tricky too, but I survived!

Only managed one Fast Day last week- oophs – need to make sure I do my two this week- no failing this time!

Soaked some black eye beans and cooked them Monday morning, so that’s where my bean broth came from.  Was awesome, my bag of dried beans made so many portions- think I put about 6 bags of 250-300g each in the freezer- so much more economical than cans!  More time consuming of course, but if you do up a whole bag on one go and portion it out and freeze, it’s really not that much of an effort.  The remainder of the bean broth will be put into the paella on Wednesday night

The onion soup was a Jamie recipe (  tweaked a little bit, and minus the cheesy toast as it’s for fasting.   Hadn’t made it before, does bubble/simmer away for quite a while when you’re softening the onions, but that means delicious flavour.

So yeah, it’s a bit of a soupy day really, oddly just how it turned out when I was going through cupboards and doing my thrifty thing with what needs using up etc.  Feel like we ate a lot over the weekend (had a friend for dinner, it involved having cheeses n crackers, pork leg roast, milky potatoes, and a Nutella cheesecake….) so I wasn’t hungry this morning at all so figured I’d skip breakfast as the whole point is you’re supposed to eat when hungry right?  Wasn’t hungry.  Anyways, just meant that I cou;d have the extra cals with dinner if I wanted, which I did, got a tasty dessert.

The walk was really nice again, the National Park- went with the boyfriend this time.  He’s in the closing stages of finishing his PHD and I think the fresh air did him lots of good, cleared his head n refreshed him! 🙂

Am glad we went out straight after work cos I was having food cravings!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not gonna lie, today was HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!  Well, more specifically, the evening was hard!  Work had been stressful, but was fine, was busy, didn’t really get much chance to think about food, but the evening?  The boyfriend was busy with work and skyping his boss who’s in the UK at the minute, and I was a bit bored, and wanted some wine and some chocolate or toast or icecream or something to cheer me up a a bit!  Dinner was hugely filling, really hearty, but I had some serious cravings to contend with all evening, was evil, almost just went to bed early to try and stop myself eating anything.  Bit my lip to death instead- obviously I needed to chew on something….. it’s sore now! 😦

Bit of a soup-a-licious day today.  Was out Thurs night seeing a friend so by the time I got in I couldn’t be bothered to figure it all out or put any effort into making anything, so I grabbed 2 soups I had in the freezer which was handy- one home made and one shop bought.  Both tasty, esp cos the lunchtime one has some meat in which kept me full for the afternoon.  The diet coke tided me over till dinner…. barely, almost succumbed to the lure of treats, but I knew how p*ssed off with myself I’d have been if I wrecked this fast day!  Proud of myself for sticking with it today!

  • can diet coke = 2c

Fast Day 61 Total = 497c

After yesterdays defeat I was determined to finish this fast day, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t feel hard!  When I got in I had to make (pastryless) quiche/frittatta type thing, and had some leftover dumpling wrappers, so I stirfried n whizzed up some veg and popped them in the oven after the quiche came out…. ah man the smell of the quiche…. so hard to resist!!  Green soup isn’t nearly so appealing as that, but I resisted, and the soup was actually quite tasty.

Feel better now I’ve had dinner too.  I prob left dinner a bit late cos I was looking at the other food I’d made and it was looking soooooooo tempting, but now I’ve eaten it’s all good.  The diet coke helped for when I got in from work- that’s one of my danger areas, and I knew something sweet would help tide me over and see me through the danger-zone!  It’s not ideal to be drinking fizzy drinks and all, but sometimes they can be useful!

Fast Day 43 Total = 500c

Just for this first week I’ve decided to do 3 Fast Days to kickstart my weightloss- I don’t usually do 3 days as it makes it feel like more of a chore to me, but in this instance, the regain of all my pounds, I thought it was warranted.  Also, after all the eating I thought a bit of a more ‘extreme’ detox might be required to get me back in the swing of things.  My first Fast was yesterday and it went ok, except the boyf was working from home and kept having toast so that did make it a bit tougher.  But all in all, it went alright, didn’t cave in.  Actually had planned to have a few blueberries too yesterday but completely forgot all about them, so it can’t have been that tough!

I ordered a new bikini the other week and it arrived today…. am keeping my fingers crossed it will fit!!  If not my options are to return it or slim into it.  Motivation clothing- does this work as a weightloss aid?  Maybe I could stick a picture of it on my fridge as a warning not to eat.  Probably would have to be on all the kitchen cupboards too for good measure. 😛  Will be trying it on when I get home.  it doesn’t have to be a pretty sight (although the bikini is v pretty, me in it, prob not so much!)- I just want it to fit and hope I didn’t completely delude myself and order sizes smaller than I actually am! :-S

Well it fits and it’s cute, but would def look better after I’ve lost at least half a stone! So hopefully by Christmas then! 🙂

Today went ok.  Had to go to supermarket after work so that was a bit tough and felt hungry, but the diet coke saw me through until dinner.  Really I should be cutting back on the fizzy drinks cos they’re not good for you, but I find they help me stick to me plan esp if the alternative is stuffing my face with food!

Fast Day 42 total: 484c

So, my friend left on Saturday, I gave myself the rest of the weekend off, and have kick started the new week with a proper Fast Day today.  As I am back where I started weight-wise, I guess this is new beginnings, a new chapter.  Dusting myself off and starting afresh!

Whilst my mate was here I did attempt a few Fast Days where I ate nothing all day until dinner.  I was fine when I was at work, but because it wasn’t a “proper” fast day, as soon as I got home I stuffed my face with whatever I could find.  Usually toast.  Think if I did no eating till dinner on a “proper” fast day like today then I’d do alright, as I’ve pretty good willpower on proper Fast Days, but during holiday time I just couldn’t make it work, and I probably ended up eating way more cals/fat that I would have ordinarily!

Feels nice to give my stomach a bit of a rest.  Feels like I have been constantly eating for the entire two weeks, and my tum is really bloated now- I keep waiting for someone to ask me how far along I am!!!!

Also, I definitely haven’t been eating enough fruit n veg this last 2 weeks, so it was good having my veggie lunch today- it felt so healthy, and tasted so good!  It’s actually really nice to have enjoyed my lunch as much as I did.  Where I’ve been snacking so much it’s almost removed the pleasure from food because I never let myself feel any hunger- mechanical eating, mindless eating.  Getting back to my Fasting will make me appreciate my food again and I am looking forward to this.  Mindless eating is fine for a holiday, but it’s good to be back! 🙂

Fast Day 31 total:  470c

Made this dinner last night, and ok, it seems like a lot of ingredients, but there wasn’t much veg in the house (fridge disaster, had to buy a new one, so in the meantime we’ve had dwindling fresh supplies) so a lot of it is bulk- the lentils, beans, barley and quinoa.  It was a bit of a hodge podge really, and I didn’t know how it was going to taste or turn out- was literally “bung it all in a pot and keep your fingers crossed!” type dinners, which luckily turned out really tasty! 🙂  The peanuts and cashews I ground in a blender with some stock, and then stirred it in to get a nice nutty flavour.

I just realised that I forgot to add the curry paste to the list (now added), so unfortunately I had to cull the 50g Greek yogurt I’d planned to have with my lunch as I’d be over cals.  Lunch will be quite small, although the soup is tasty, and the dumplings make it seem naughty, so am sure I will survive.  Maybe when I get in from work if I’m feeling desperate I can have 30c of yogurt…. Might be about 40g….. I will eat it with a baby spoon. 😛

The day was alright considering I had a super tiny lunch.  I lasted until just before 7pm to have my dinner and didn’t even have to have a baby portion of yogurt!  Before dinner I even did the following: rearranged the new refrigerator, blended some sweet potato soup I made last night (and forgot to actually blend….), prepared the rest of my lunch for tomorrow (Greek yog with maple syrup, an orange, some nuts and a few seaweed rice crackers that need eating), AND made some healthy chocolate fudge!  Well, it’s still in the freezer chilling and solidifying so the ‘making’ isn’t finished yet, but it will be done this evening.  Obviously I can’t try any today, but I will get the boyfriend to try some and give me the verdict!

Healthy Chocolate Fudge
